The L237 Pleco (Ancistrus sp.), also known as the Brucite Bristlenose, is a popular, peaceful, and active bottom-dweller native to the Rio Putumayo and Rio Iça basins in Peru. Reaching only 4 to 6 inches in length, they are highly sought after by aquarists for their distinctive bristle patterns and manageable size.
Key Care Details
- Diet: Primarily omnivorous with a strong focus on vegetarian foods. They thrive on algae wafers, spirulina-based sinking pellets, and fresh vegetables like zucchini and cucumber.
- Tank Size & Setup: Requires a minimum of 20 to 30 gallons. The tank should feature moderate water flow, live plants, and ample hiding spots such as driftwood or specialized caves.
-
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: \(75
- pH: \(6.0\) to \(7.5\)
- Behavior: Generally peaceful in community tanks. Males can become territorial with each other, so it's best to keep only one male per tank unless the aquarium is very large with plenty of visual barriers
