Golden Eye Black Rili Neocaridina
Golden Eye Black Rili Neocaridina
The golden eye black rili shrimp is a type of ornamental freshwater dwarf shrimp, selectively bred for its distinct black and translucent rili pattern combined with unique golden eyes.
Classification and Origin
Scientific Name: The base species is typically Neocaridina davidi. The "golden eye" trait originated from Caridina species like the Orange Eye Blue Tiger (OEBT) shrimp and was later selectively bred into other lines, including Neocaridina.
  • Coloration: These shrimp have a black or dark-colored head and tail, with a clear or translucent section in the middle of their body.
  • Eye Color: The most striking feature is their golden eyes, which are a result of a genetic mutation or selective breeding where the shrimp lack certain elements to develop typical dark sight pigments.
Care and Maintenance
Golden eye black rili shrimp are generally considered hardy and suitable for beginner aquarists, similar to other Neocaridina varieties.

Recommended Range

Temperature 68–78 °F (20–25.5 °C)
pH 6.5–8

In the Aquarium
Size: They typically grow to about 1 to 1.6 inches (2.5 to 4 cm).
  • Lifespan: With proper care, they have an average lifespan of 1–2 years.
  • Behavior: They are active and social, thriving in groups (6-12 individuals are recommended). They make excellent "clean-up crews" in planted aquariums.
  • Breeding: They are eager and easy breeders. To maintain the distinct rili pattern and golden eye traits, selective breeding (culling offspring that revert to wild brown coloration or lose the golden eyes) is required.
