- Appearance: The male fish displays iridescent green and blue colors and a "snake-scale" pattern on its body. Its caudal (tail) fin has a characteristic black, spider web-like pattern between the fin rays.
- Behavior: Compared to other betta species, the Betta smaragdina 'Guitar' is known for its highly energetic flaring behavior. In fighting contests, its tendency to fight at the water's surface gave it an advantage over other varieties.
