  • Appearance: The male fish displays iridescent green and blue colors and a "snake-scale" pattern on its body. Its caudal (tail) fin has a characteristic black, spider web-like pattern between the fin rays.
  • Behavior: Compared to other betta species, the Betta smaragdina 'Guitar' is known for its highly energetic flaring behavior. In fighting contests, its tendency to fight at the water's surface gave it an advantage over other varieties.

These fish, adapted to brackish, coastal mangrove swamps, require hard, slightly brackish water and thrive in tanks with leaf litter and floating plants, and can be kept in planted community tanks.
